I recognized the pattern, but what I don't recognize is the high temperatures that came along with it. Almost 40 locations across BC broke high temperature records for that day over the weekend.

I was reminiscing with a friend about how 20 or 30 years ago weather like this in March in Vancouver would have been unmitigated joy. But now, with snow packs already less than half normal before this heat wave, plus so many fires making it through the winter along with the ongoing drought in much of the province, the momentary pleasure comes with a sense of foreboding for just about everyone.

I am supposed to work at a number of outdoor sport events over the summer, but we are already having to plan for what happens if smoke and/or heat for them to be cancelled. What a shame...
