- Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM), Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) and Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) ( GOOGL) are part of a consortium of tech companies aimed at going after Nvidia's (NASDAQ: NVDA) dominance in artificial intelligence-related software., Reuters reported.
- The group, known as UXL Foundation, intends to build software and tools that can power a number of AI accelerator chips, regardless of who builds them, the news outlet reported.
- "We're actually showing developers how you migrate out from an Nvidia platform," Qualcomm's head of AI and machine learning Vinesh Sukumar told Reuters.
- Nvidia did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
- UXL will eventually recruit Amazon ( AMZN) Web Services, Microsoft ( MSFT) Azure and other chipmakers.
- The group said it intends to eventually support Nvidia hardware and code in the long run.
- Nvidia shares fell fractionally in premarket trading, as did Qualcomm and Google. Intel shares fell 4.3% amid a report that China is blocking chips from Intel and AMD ( AMD) inside government computers.
