I haven't a clue. I have never played in options for MLPs. MLP taxation is already too complicated (for me) without adding options. When you call TD, are you talking to the phone support people, or their tax experts? The phone support people (at most brokers) are just trying to get you to be happy enough to hang up. At best, they may have a little script someone wrote for them about a tax problem - but it is rarely on point. There is a tax department - its just hard to reach. They are more knowledgeable and will (sometimes, if the stars align) actually research a problem.
