Seems like the Hitler analogy may have been fortuitous (take this with a grain of salt since its from MacOSRumors):
Drama unfolds at Infinite Loop
According to a reliable source with a strong track record at accurately reporting events at the highest levels inside Apple (and limited confirmation from a second contact at Apple), another chapter has unfolded in the board-room drama at Infinite Loop. Apparently, yesterday afternoon, Jobs and several board members (rumored to be York, Campbell, and Ellison, among unknown others) were meeting with rumored top CEO candidate Jim Cannavino. Under discussion was Jobs' place at the company after the new CEO takes the helm; reportedly, Jobs was seeking an air-tight employment contract that, while only providing $1/year, would guarantee his place at the company for at least three years.Although Rumors generally shies away from such personal aspects of Apple news, what followed -- if true -- is already spreading among Apple employees as hearsay, and getting the facts straight before it spreads beyond employee whispering can only help.According to the source, there was little support for such a contract from the board, or from Cannavino. At this point, after discussion became increasingly heated, Jobs reportedly became very angry, and told Cannavino to leave the premises in a threatening manner, shouting and cursing. After Cannavino left, there were reports of continued shouting between Jobs and board members.Recently, Rumors has done some serious research into Cannavino's past projects, which showed a true passion for the Mac platform and for the Next/OpenStep operating system. This is a man who can get things done, and mixes the kind of passion that Apple needs to build on its current sucesses, with the diplomatic abilities that Apple will need to build employee confidence. To think that Apple has the opportunity to bring such a leader on board and may pass it up is troubling; no less troubling, however, to think that Jobs could find himself losing the support of the current board. Jobs has done great things for this company as of late, and Apple would do well to keep him in the fold. Until there is more widespread confirmation of this story, it is being treated as unconfirmed rumor and possible misinformation, despite the past reliability of the source. If untrue, we extend our apologies in advance to the indviduals involved. If it is in fact true, however, there will be much to ponder in the days ahead. |
