A "bullet" from S&P on QCOM (it came out around 01 Jan 98). Also, per the
09 Feb 98 First Call estimate they are now looking for $1.71 for
FY 98 and $2.61 for FY 99. Disclosure (fwiw) I am long QCOM at 46+. Does anyone notice any erroneous assumptions on the part of S&P, or do they more or less get it right?

QUALCOMM
This company pioneered a digital wireless telephone operating system called code division multiple access (CDMA) that features excellent voice quality and high capacity for value-added services such as E-mail, stock quotes and Internet access. CDMA is rapidly emerging as the standard for mobile communications, with nine of the 12 largest U.S. cellular carriers and two out of three new PCS providers adopting the technology. Internationally, CDMA has made inroads in Chile and Peru and boasts 4.5 million subscribers in South Korea. Revenues doubled to $2.4 billion in fiscal 1997 (ended September), and we see $3.8 billion in 1998. We estimate per-share earnings will jump 60% in fiscal 1998 (ending Sep) to $2.10. For fiscal 1999, a 50% increase to $3.15 is possible. Given the huge potential for CDMA-based digital wireless applications, the shares (QCOM, 62, Nasdaq *****; Quality ranking: NR) merit purchase by aggressive investors.

PS. Those asterisks should really be stars.
