I read your post at that link, and I agree for the most part. Will think about it some more.

One thing comes to mind - it could be that this line of reasoning underestimates American politician’s ability - and propensity - to drown any and all problems in more money.

You would see “cost of living adjustments”, subsidies for food, energy, rents, transportation and other cost of living issues (maybe even subsidized mortgages after means testing?). All this would be very “humane” and very socialist. More power to the government, which would be doing great heroic things to help people get through the hard times.

All such subsidies could promote hyperinflation - with an attendant great wealth reshuffling.

One thing no one will want to see during such times would be more wars. Our limitary - industrial sector would not be a good investment. And, their products would, likely, be not very competitive on international markets.
