Obviously only known exploits would count since unknown ones are just that, unknown.

What I meant by Android not being safer is that it is not invulnerable to exploits either, so trying to have a completely secure smartphone is impossible.

That last stats I could find show that over 97% of all smartphone malware is targeted for Android.

As long as a device is connected to the Internet or cellular network, it can be hacked.

The reason there are so few hacks for ChromeOS is because it has such low market share, less than 1% worldwide. Chromebooks are used in many K-12 schools, but why would hackers waste their time hacking them? They don't. It's not because ChromeOS is somehow designed better to be impenetrable.

If you recall, years ago OS X/macOS used to enjoy the same apathy from hackers and viruses, but then Macs became more popular and also began to be used in enterprise. Then they became targets because they were worth hacking.

It's also believed that Mac users are generally better off financially than your average PC user, so that makes them more of a target as well.

When famous bank robber Willie Sutton was asked why he robbed banks, he replied, "Because that's where the money is."
