News is, by definition, comprised of things that happened, not things that might or are even most likely to happen or most likely to HAVE happened. .

Having had to remind you myriad times of the difference between news and opinion, I'm glad to see the definition stuck. Of course I was referring to news articles in my post. I expect that most of the complaints about lies by those to outlets would boil down to failure by the observer to differentiate. There are surely lots of things published as opinion that could be perceived as lies by the outlet if the reader were not focusing. For example, Paul Krugman does not do news so he has nothing to do with this.

Another differentiation that often gets lost in these discussions is the difference between lies and mistakes. Lies are intentional. When I talk about this I mean news reporting with deliberate falsification. Which is why I am so confident that those outlets don't do it. It has been a long time since I addressed this issue and I'm rusty. I forgot that I need to be explicit about that. Opinions are not news. And any lies or misinformation in opinion columns are on the author, not the outlet.

Occam just shouldn't be there

Occam is my explanation for the phenomenon--the perception of lying. Has nothing to do with what is being published. You contorted that.
