You can't worm out of this one. That truncation of yours was a downright lie.

The issue was Trump saying he would abandon a country that hadn't chipped in fully if it were attacked.

The quote you truncated said that Trump was right that the European countries should contribute what the agreement calls for, not that Trump was right to dump the country or NATO. I don't think anyone disagrees that all NATO countries should invest whatever the NATO agreement calls for, that is, meet their commitments.
