C runs the ADRs for Air France-KLM. So, when I was checking it out I wanted to verify the ADR/ordinary ratio. The prices at the time did not reflect the 1/10 ratio, so naturally I contacted them specifically asking for the ratio. The reply:

Dear Sir/Madam:

Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you.

Unfortunately we were unable to locate an account with the information that was provided. We would like to work with you to resolve this.

If your inquiry involves an account being held by a broker or a financial company, we would not have access to specific account information. We suggest you contact the broker or financial company for account specific inquiries.

Otherwise, in order to assist us with identifying the account in question, please resend your request with any information you have already provided, and include the following information:

  • Name of the security and/or stock

They've been useless for decades. Back in the stone age, they would routinely post payments 9-10 days after I mailed them. When I called and asked why it took so long, and what would happen if there were a mail delay, the fool on the other end of the line would only tell me about late charges. I made it a point to avoid them by cutting the card into little pieces.
