Well-it is perfectly obvious to those of us are still semi-sane here taht this is a pictorial representation of the climactic scene in The Fable of the Owl and the Giraffe- (apocryphally attributed to Aesop) B>---/\+++&&&,&&&V
A rare anorexic monoped owl was sitting on the uppermost branch of a very tall tree. He was debating on what not to eat that night when a very tall giraffe appeared in front of him. "I'm very hungry," said the giraffe who did indeed have an impressively thin neck. "Would you mind if I ate a few leaves off your tree?"
"Not at all," said the owl, but he added, being, naturally, wise, "But be careful because if you eat too many from the top and a high wind comes up, the tree will be unable to hold itself upright and fall over."
The giraffe began to nibble at the leaves around the owl and they chitchatted about this and that until the owl noticed a breeze coming up. " Perhaps you'd better stop now. The tree is beginning to sway." But the giraffe was so hungry that he said, "Just a few more, please!" and continued to work his way down the tree while the wind blew harder and harder until the trunk of the poor tree folded in half and the tree fell over with the owl still perched on the top-which was now the side.
"What'd I tell you?" said the owl.
"Are all owls so wise as you?" said the giraffe, burping apologetically.
"Yes," said the owl and flew away. |
