koan, thank you for this background information. It is a pleasure to talk to a person with both knowledge and experience in these important matters. Forward guidance is so difficult without these components.

Science and technology was my line of work as an Engineer and I was well suited to it. Never took any interest in Economics or Politics until several things happened.

1987. More or less just off the plane from Europe to start a new career in the USA. My feet had hardly touched the ground when Black Monday happened. I only had a H1 visa, and had burned all my bridges on the way out to the USA. The place I was working at was shut down. First time as an engineer I was going to be laid off, and I had a young family to support. In the frikken USA too! Just tough luck I thought. Survived though.

1991. Bought my first house, it was actually a dream home, as I was doing OK at the time. Then came housing crash and recession, lots more shut downs. Survived that. Just.

It was during that period I worked for a company that had the VP of HR who was a Deming advocate. A truly inspirational time and did some good work.

1996, Came back to the UK and was interested in the big Siemens plant that was being built in Newcastle at a huge expense. I never joined it but horrified when it went belly up and the ground was eventually turned into a parking lot for RV's.

At that point in my life I learned how easy/hard it was to help build and sustain a successful company. It took luck and a lot of knowledgeable smart hard working people. Big amounts of capital is not easily come by when it is earned, and can disappear in a flash if the ball is dropped at any time. I found it hard to understand why so many screw ups were occurring.

So at that point I decided to learn a little about "economics" in my own way... it's how I always do things.

It soon became clear where a lot of the problems were. I hope you are familiar with the contents of Paul Grignon's video I posted. If you don't think much of it, there really isn't much we can discuss that would be of mutual benefit.
