My observation is that civilians are being bombed and are starving. That would not be by choice.

I don't see the point of arguing on the definition of a word, or the processes how a large number of people got into the predicament they are in.

I am not a historian, but from what I have read, before the formation of the State of Israel, Jewish and Muslim communities lived in close proximity to each other for many generations in several countries. Human existence is never trouble free, but those communities generally lived in peace.

Syria has a large number of religions within it's borders, and they all go back a long way.

What is even more remarkable is the closest DNA to the Israelis (which are distinct from other nations) are the Palestinians. This indicates they are a common people, and there has been more going on in the region then just wars.

In fact, there is a whole lot of nonsense over the word Palestine and "Palestinian" from what I hear.
