It's rare for an iOS app to require an upgrade before use, but some do. One was a banking app that likely had a security issue with a particular version, so they wanted to be sure you weren't using it any longer. I've only run into it a handful of times over the years. Glad you got it to work and hopefully Sonos developers pulls their collective head out and adopt more customer friendly policies and better apps in the future.
