Those are Burnley accents. North East between Leeds and Preston. North of Liverpool. If you get on a slow train between Glasgow and London you can hear the accents change from stop to stop. Regarding the Ice Creams, I understand the indignity suffered by those young ladies at a similar age. -g- One day, on a Sunday after mass, I went into the Ice Cream shop to buy my usual Ice Cream. However my three pence piece would no longer buy an Ice Cream. The new cost was 4 pence! I could not even complain as I would expose my own crime !! The shame of such a lowered standard of living was hard to bear. The consoling shop keeper said I could buy an Ice Lolly for 3 pence, but an ice cream cost 4 pence. Natural events ensured I became a religious believer rather then just a straightforward attendance of Church. This was later confirmed at a much later date when I was told the price of an Ice Cream was a pound (£1). This happened just after a new pound coin was shaped exactly like the old three penny piece (240p to the pound). It was a sharp reminder of the time I strayed from the path. I have paid back for my errors (inflation adjusted) many times over. Not sure if it will do any good or not. How long before the price of an Ice Cream is a tenner ? An Ice Cream van that took cards but not cash? waaaay out of order!
