Interesting but overstated point of view. The reason they are drawing so much power for AI is due to how inefficient the algorithms are.

You still need good programmers to create efficient and effective programs.

What they need less of is coders, people that implement cookie cutter applications for new and existing verticals.

There is a significant difference between a coder and a programmer and they spun out a whole generation of coders thay can't easily scale up to be programmers. A Google certificate only gets you so far.

Same thing happened when Apps became the rage. They thought no one would need to design new hardware anymore, software could take its place on standardized reference designs. They laid off all the hardware designers. Fast forward a few years and they were paying big money to get all those people back and in some cases getting them to come out of retirement to train the next generation of designers.
