I've used coinstar machines 6-8 times at multiple locations over the last 5 months...

I have found that mostly the deal where I have been is that as long as you purchase "something" they will give you the rest in cash...
One purchase I made was for $25 and I had redeemed over $200
and they gladly gave me my 175$ in cash as change...

My average coin redemptions have all been between $100 and $300
and have always gotten sizable cash as change and did my food shopping at that store anyway so it really is a win/win for the customer and the store...

Also their fee which has been debated here comes out of the company's
7.5% and ranges from nothing to 2-3% and really just adds into their cost structure for their machines which is changing from margins of
25-30% to higher than 40% as efficiencies are being realized...

You may want to read some of the in depth reports to catch up with where the company is.
