First of all, the problems with the Dixiecrats does not define the Democratic party, FDR's administration does, and the policies of the last hundred years, which have been consistently better by the Democrats.
The best example might be to look at the type of people each party put on the Supreme court. In the last 80 years the Republicans have made horrible appointments of, idiots, religious zealots, and criminals, like Alito and Thomas, Scalia and Rhinquest.
In fact the only two good one's they appointed were mistakes,, they vowed never to repeat: Souter and Warren!
So if FDR had to make a deal with the devil (southern slave states) to get the New Deal, that is a dilemma and a dilemma does not have a logical solution, e.g. Sophie's Choice, so only an existential decision could be made!
So if giving in to the white supremacist Southern system of Jim Crow was necessary, then that seems the smart decision at the time.
You are old enough to know how horrible the Great Depression was! People were starving and desperate.
The thing is, imagine if a Republican had been in office, like Hoover, nothing would have been done like the New Deal, including standing up to the Southern White supremacists!
