A couple of the responders have made a comment or two on something which I think we all know; our pets read our body language. They also can pretty much guess what will probably happen by what we wear on any certain day and even know when our days off are by the times we usually get out of bed of a day. They know when they'll be staying home and when they have an opportunity to join us. There have been a few times I've taken Bear to work with me on a day I don't normally work just so he knows he can spend time with me. I do wish at times our pets could speak to us with clearer signals especially when they're in pain.
A short story:
One very nice afternoon some friends of my wife and I got together and went to a small lake outside of our community. Of course, we took Bear with us. At some point, we decided we would rent an flat bottom boat and try to do some fishing.
While in the boat, all five of us, I had just bait a hook with some chicken liver and with my back to all had put the rod a bit behind me and was about to cast. For some reason, I could feel tension on the line and thought I had snagged it on something in the boat. "Honey" I asked, "what is my hook caught on?" As soon as I had asked, I also turned to look. In horror, I realized that Bear had decided to have a snack. Frantically, we pried open his mouth and dislodged the hook with the liver still attached. PTL, I hadn't let the line go slack or he would have swallowed it. I believe that was the last time we took Bear with us during a boating expedition. And, the last time I ever took him along when I'd go fishing. |
