Chip stocks spike across board as global demand climbs

  • Semiconductor stocks shot up across the board by noon trading Wednesday as chip demand elevates in 2024 and beyond.
  • ASML Holding N.V. ( ASM) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (NYSE: TSM) led the charge with an 8% and 7% surge, respectively. Both companies received positive news today, as ASML plans to send its latest chip-making system to TSM and Samsung ( OTCPK:SSNLF).
  • Applied Materials (NASDAQ: AMAT) gained 5%, while Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ: LRCX) and Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) both increased 4.5%.
  • Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM), Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) all added about 3%, while Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) gained 2%.
  • Texas Instruments (NASDAQ: TXN) and Analog Devices (NASDAQ: ADI) inched up 1%.
  • A forecast by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics shows global chip demand surging in 2024 and 2025.
