Mike: The adage "gold is where you find it" is just as true today as ever. The conservative investor of yesteryear you refer to was likely attracted to emerging producing and successful gold plays with some quantifiable expectation of return on investment. I've heard stories about my wife's family who lived in the Fresno, CA area in the early 1900's that made good investment returns with operators active in mining near the area until the plays ran out. As easier reserves became more scarce to identify, investors were stung by higher risk and bogus ventures tarnishing the reputation of the industry. Time to get out the polish...Irv
