I thought I posted a reply last night, but I guess it didn't stick. Anyhow, yes, there are some very cool Redwoods that you can stand inside of and see the sky above. Also some that lost huge parts of the upper tree and grew several new leaders. As I recall, the Corkscrew Tree somewhere along Prairie Creek is like that. Amazing tree. I've visited that one at least 4 times on various trips through that area.

Maybe California is doing a much better job of regulating and watching over biomass burning -- and is truly just burning residuals, etc.. That is not the case in a lot of other places where it is "whole tree burning" that is happening. Some of the groups that have been monitoring what's going on at the biomass generating plants and the pelleting plants have followed truckloads of logs that were being taken straight to the pelleting plant. A lot of the clear-cut forests are just going there -- especially hardwood. It's pretty shocking.
