This line from the Money article cannot be accurate. CSCO's largest competitor is COMS, and I thought that company pulled in about $6B last year compared to CSCO's $9B. Am I mistaken?

Good catch. You are not mistaken. This statement in the article is just wrong (don't believe everything you read). COMS 1997 revenues were about $4.3B. CSCO 1997 revenues were about $6B. Even if we use the last 4 quarters (which takes us into 1998), CSCO had $7.3B in revenues (not $9B).
