I agree with you, and you have provided the first hand information. I have been visiting Taiwan in person myself. The biggest foreign computer sellers in Taiwan is CPQ and IBM, then Philips, TI. However, as you know Taiwan is the country which manufactured most of the computer related products, so most local consumers and corp bought pcs from domestic manufacturers, like Acer, FIC ....etc. HWP sells printers in Taiwan.For Dell, I did not see anything at all. I read the local newspaper of Taiwan, it is said CPQ's order from local computer manufacturers will increase significantly in 1998, however , due to the BTO program, the profit margin for those Taiwanese manufacturers will reduce also. Another rumor is INTELL will have a very big contract with TSMC, which will take over the total production capacity of TSMC's one 8" fab. I do not know what it is !!!TSMC people do not want to comment !!! |
