I use Apple email to access my Microsoft email accounts (msn and hotmail) on my MacBook, iPhone and iPad. I have been getting prompts for a while that Apple mail cannot access one account or another. I can usually enter my account name and password to fix the issue. Other times I cannot but the problem seems to "go away".

I now know why. Microsoft is moving to "modern authentication" from "basic authentication" for their email systems. If you use a version of Microsoft mail, you may have received an email from them stating that the change will go in effect September 16. However, research revealed the "cannot access account" problem is a known issue at Microsoft.

I found an article from Microsoft covering the issue and upcoming change in September. It also offers guides on what needs to be done. I offer this for the board to review. If you are like me, I would rather deal with this now than when my accounts no longer work on September 16.
