Science is the opposite of rationalism.
Science is not an institution, or a group of people, or a set of data. It is an algorithm for empirical falsification of guesses about how the universe works.
It was developed as an alternative to philosophical rationalism, which regards reason as the chief source and test of knowledge.
An alternative to rationalism was needed, you see, because reason is absolute bollocks at deciphering the universe. Like, pants-on-head stupid. Every single person who has attempted to decipher the universe through pure reason has been proven embarrassingly wrong the moment an empirical test was applied to their conclusions.
Reason has one, and only one role in understanding the physical universe, and that is coming up with hypotheses to test. It's complete rubbish at verification.
This should be obvious to anyone with two sense to rub together. When you want to know if heavier objects fall faster, you don't sit around thinking about it. You drop some objects and watch.
A demand to see evidence is not anti-scientific. It is the very essence of science. Skepticism of academic authority is not anti-scientific. It is the very essence of science.
During the insanity of the Branch Covidians, demands were made for evidence, transparency, and accountability. They were ignored by self-styled "experts", wielding their academic credentials and government endorsements as a shield. At one point, Anthony Fauci declared himself to be the personification, Carl Gustav Jung style, of science itself.
We all know this was a bullshit dog and pony show.
He who regards science as a temple rather than an algorithm is not a scientist, but a priest.
