It can be worse than what Goldwater went through, much worse. First of all, there have been massive terrorist demonstrations, the most recent on July 4 chanting death to USA in NYC. That is not going to sit well with the vast majority of Americans. Secondly, Biden's dementia and mental state is deteriorating rapidly as each week passes. Even his most fervent admirers and lovers of the Democratic Party cannot vote for Biden in good conscience. They know he is finished, done. The only possible threat I can see to a Trump landslide victory would be if Biden opted out and the DNC shifted to RFK, Jr. But that would require some brains and intelligence, something that is in very short supply at the DNC.
