We're seasonal here too, but it's longer by a couple of months.

26 miles sounds like "a pool too far" if that's the only reason to travel that kind of distance.

As a disabled vet my buddy is hoping he can get on the local Coast Guard base which has a pool.

In fact, it was built large enough to place boats in by crane for training recruits. In the '80s we took our Sunday School class there on Sunday afternoons quite often when the facility was not in use. (It also had a basketball half-court, a handball court, weight room and a sauna. Everyone loved the place.) There were 5 of us with military/retired IDs, 3 adults, 2 military kids. Each ID could sponsor 2 civilians.

I heard that after 9/11 the base no longer allowed that kind of access. A shame. If it turns out the restriction extends even to him there's a couple local community pools to fit the bill.
