Turns out the shooter was indeed a young guy. 20 years old.

And it's looking more and more likely that the shooter was indeed tempted to go for the head over center mass.

There's a video out there showing in slow motion the split second before the first shot came. Trump's head moved ever so slightly just before his ear was hit. He was DAMNED lucky. (Some might even call it divine providence.)

Anyway, the thing about going for the head is that it moves too much, which makes it a very unreliable target for shooters. Given that the shooter only had seconds to emerge from hiding, line up his shot, and take it before Secret Service spotted him, he really should have aimed for center mass instead.

Like I said before, in video games it's comically easy to get head shots. Game designers make it that way in order to give the player a sense of accomplishment and something to brag about.

I suspect the media will discover that the shooter played a lot of first-person shooting games. This of course will be followed by calls to further restrict violent video games like Call of Duty and PUBG.

EDIT: Qone0 also pointed out the adrenaline factor, which further supports my hypothesis that the kid overestimated his skills.
