Vance is the one who made the matter a big deal with the notion that non-breeding is not only bad but a problem that needs to be fixed. It reeks with disrespect and is threatening.

I may have missed the big picture somewhere, but my impression is that he was addressing the situation that occurs after children are born and violence occurs, what to do about it. The debate was whether more harm was done by staying together or the family splitting up.

This is something I admit to having zero personal experience with. But it seems to me a cogent argument is to try to solve the problem, rather than leave children fatherless (or motherless, if that is the case) and send the offending parent off to serially offend against other family units. The quantity of harm done overall may be minimized finding a way to deal with the problem within the family versus turning the trouble-maker loose on other families.

I would argue that he, as a victim, probably ought to be listened to on this topic. While it is possible his view is jaundiced, it is also possible it is far deeper than most of those who would think about it in the context of solutions.

Obviously, if an victim determines it is time to go, that is the victim's decision. I don't think he argued against that.

I don't believe he suggested that with the "cat ladies" comment. It would probably be better if he hadn't said it but it isn't something I'd get balled up about.
