Gunmen Steal $1.05 Million Of Memory Chips At San Francisco Airport
SEOUL -(Dow Jones)- Gunmen broke into an airport warehouse in San
Francisco last week and stole $1.05 million worth of memory chips
shipped from South Korea, the Associated Press reported Thursday.
Asiana Airlines of Seoul said eight gunmen, armed with semi-automatic
rifles, broke into the San Francisco International Airport's cargo
terminal on the morning of Feb. 9 and got away with 47 boxes of 16- and
64-megabyte dynamic random access memory, or DRAM, chips.
The memory chips were shipped by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and
Hyundai Electronics Industries Co. to their U.S. subsidiaries for sale
in the U.S., said Asiana, which transported the cargo.
Aircargo Handling Service of the U.S., which stored the chips under a
contract with Asiana, reported the robbery to the San Francisco police,
Asiana said. U.S. Customs agents and San Francisco police are
investigating the case.
The shipment was insured, Asiana said. |
