Questions about cataract implants.

I'm 70 and I'll be having cataract surgery on both eyes pretty soon. I have to decide where to set the "refraction target." Basically, do I want the new lenses set for distance and use glasses for near vision, or do I want to set the lenses for near vision and use glasses for distance?

I do a lot of reading and computer work, so setting the lenses for near vision makes sense. Plus I've been very near-sighted all my life and always had to use glasses for distance. My ophthalmologist and optometrist agree that setting my eyes for near vision makes sense.

But I also like long drives, walking, star-gazing and other distance-vision activities, too. The prospect of not needing glasses for these is very appealing.

So I haven't made up my mind. I bet there are readers here who've dealt with this. What did you choose and how did it work out?
