mPhase Claims 'Succesful' DSL Video Trial

Well, maybe you can deliver full-motion MPEG-2 video and audio over phone lines after all. Or at least that seems to be the conclusion formed by mPhase Technologies [XDSL] after it completed a series of successful point-to-point tests of its DSL technology.
The MPEG-2 test was conducted at a facility operated by DTC Communications (a regional telco) in DeKalb, Tenn., last November. mPhase said that during the test it was able to simultaneously transmitted a broadcast-quality MPEG-2 (4 Mbps) full-motion television picture with sound and standard telephony service over a single twisted-pair line up to 9,000 feet long. MPhase said its tests are continuing at specific locations, and are being conducted in conjunction with local and international telephone companies.
Wayne Gassaway, general manager of DTC, said the signal was delivered using DVD source programming, which resulted in "a crisp full-motion video with exceptional sound and picture quality."
In related news, mPhase signed an entertainment delivery contract with Complete Telecommunications, Nashville, Tenn. Under a branded service called CompleteTV, Complete will provide distribution services. The headend distribution platform requires the proprietary video transport and data distribution technology developed in conjunction with Microphase Corp. and Georgia Tech Research Institute.
