A friend just sent me a letter from Ukraine, he is currently at a place I used to live.
Here are two paragraphs...
"Ukrainians have adapted to a country at war. Russian missiles constantly target Ukraine's electricity grid, so power is rationed across the country. Electricity across the country is available only about half of the time, so locals use generators to fill the gaps. Ukraine is still under martial law -- Kyiv and Lviv have curfews in place in order to prevent sabotage. Ukrainian cities historically have a lively nightlife. The cities are quite busy during the day, with the streets full of people, shopping, dining, socializing, etc. but due to curfew, the streets are deserted after 11:00pm.
In spite of obvious challenges, Ukrainians are busy, optimistic and very welcoming. They're curious and friendly, and eager to share their culture. The cuisine is still the best in the world. The technology here is very impressive -- the subways, busses, street ATMs, banks, etc are all automated. Kids use e-scooters everywhere. There are many open businesses and amenities. Ukraine has much improved since my last visit 10 years ago. It no longer feels soviet, dark and creepy... Quite the opposite: it feels stylish, westernized, and open."
God bless Ukraine and fuck Putin.
