Mine all came from colonial VA, NC, and PA, directly to KY and the direct line behind me stayed basically in the same two counties (about 100 miles apart, maternal to paternal) until today. Most all were VA tobacco farmers who were taxed into oblivion and took up arms in the war, most coming to KY as scouts, fort builders, and the like. All English, well before Scots and Irish were basically dumped in the mountains. :)

I don't know "Justified," unless it's a racehorse. :) I'm not sure terrain is the best indicator of what qualifies as "Midwest." There are places in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois that look almost identical to parts of KY, even the more mountainous areas. And, the culture is not unlike KY in any of those three states, although the food tends to be a little different in my experience.
