i had the same experience with apple. I used to have itunes and carry my own 4k songs ripped from my CDs. Once I did this, I got rid of my CDs thinking that apple would maintain my music. But then they decided wihtout asking or consulting, that ALL my songs were illegal and deleted them from all music playlists. I have a 1998 IPOD with 80 G disk and use that in my car instead of my iphone.

IMHO Apple did this explicitly to FORCE me to buy music only from them. and they have serioulsy lacked maintaining or supporting any old playlists on all updates.
