HPI

As I see there is an American knockoff of this French series called High Potential soon to air, I thought I should share my impressions of the original.

HPI has what should be a decent premise. Our heroine has a very high IQ as well as behavioural issues, so is making end meet as a cleaner. While working in a police station, she accidentally knocks over a set of files and while picking them up, manages to solve a crime the police were fumbling away at. Suspend your disbelief here; she slon ends up working with the police, and is of course assigned to work with an uptight detective who is her opposite in almost every way.

I stuck with it for two seasons, but it got less and less interesting as the writing smoothed off the rough edges that made her interesting. And in the second season it devolves into more of a predictable romance series. I guess we are supposed to understand this by how they clothe the character. In the first series she dresses like a teenager hanging out at the mall, but in the first half of Season 2 all of a sudden her cleavage takes a feature role, then in the second half of that season her posterior takes over.

I see there is a third season not available with English subs, but I doubt I would continue on with it even if subs were available. The version in English to come. I am not hopeful but will at least check it out.
