The Frankincense Trail

This is 15 years old so might be a little harder to find, but I highly recommend you make the search. I have seen at least a half dozen travel shows centred on the Arabian Peninsula and surrounding areas, but this one took us to a number of places I have never seen before, all the way from poor desert nomads to a visit with one of the ricjhest men in the world in Saudi Arabia.

Host Kate Humble follows the ancient Frankincense Trail, a set of trade routes that took the aromatic herb, which in its day was more valuable than gold, from where it is harvested in Oman around the Arabian Peninsula through Yemen, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia to its its eventual terminus in Jordan and Israel. Humble or her producers must have had an amazing contact list, and they also got lucky by being able to access areas like Yemen and Gaza which are no-go these days. It’s pretty amazing how much they cover in only four episodes.
