Ties within the Sino-Soviet Bloc have always been strongest when they've faced western sanctions. The classic Lada Niva "suv" and Lada Granta sedan remain the top-selling cars in Russia, but cars made in China have taken all other slots of officially-new cars. All new cars in Russia are missing costly 'nanny-state' add-ons like airbags, ABS (antilock braking systems), and seat belts with pre-tensioners, required in decadent Western vehicles - let alone nonsense tech like backup cameras, power-steering or power-brakes. The exception are newish western cars illegally imported from the UAE, most post-accident write-off vehicles purchased at US auctions and repaired in the UAE with bodywork carried out in Russia. The newest Russian military vehicle is the 2025 one horsepower Tachanka - an all weather battle platform which exceeds the specifications of costly imported Chinese-made electric battle golf carts which the Russian military currently uses in place of tanks in Ukraine. The Tachanka's gun comes rear-mounted from the GAZ factory to better cover strategic retreats.
