Why is road kill meat weird? If it's deer or pigs or something good, that's human food ready to eat. If it's dead rats and stuff that would be good food for animals such as dogs, cats, hens, pigs, crocodiles, whatnot.

One would need pretty good stocks to maintain a continuous supply through lean times.

A decade ago I suggested to my niece who had hens in a rural setting that nabbing road kill would be good for food for her several hens [possums and stuff coz there aren't large animal road kill in NZ]. Hens fed on protein instead of rubbish commercial feed produces excellent eggs and meat. And it's free. And it cleans up a mess. Just carry a container in the boot and a hook to pick it up and pop it in.
