Then you need to blame the generals. How dumb are people who think presidents do this type of planning? They don't for good reasons. Guys who have training do it. Sometimes they fuck up.

In any case you don't tell your opponents beforehand you're planning a retreat, like Trump foolishly did. Can you imagine Churchill telling Hitler "We're gonna retreat in a thousand boats at Dunkirk."

ANY decent student of history knew that invasion would fail. Americans unfortunately are poorly educated. They forgot the stupidity of Vietnam & the USSR disaster in Afghanistan.
