Doren,
Then you need to blame the generals. How dumb are people who think presidents do this type of planning? They don't for good reasons. Guys who have training do it. Sometimes they fuck up.
Blame the generals. Blame your predecessors. Blame, blame, blame ...

There were plenty of signs that the generals were giving overly rosy pictures of how things were in Afghanistan. The Washington Post even had an article on it. (Ask me again if you want a link.)

The point is that Brandon owned the mess. Even as late as July of 2021, Brandon was outright claiming that the withdrawal from Kabul won't look like Saigon.
In any case you don't tell your opponents beforehand you're planning a retreat, like Trump foolishly did.
WTB are you talking about? This was a planned withdrawal, a transition to the Afghan security forces. It wasn't supposed to be a "retreat."

Or at least if the Afghan government at the time was doomed from the beginning, the retreat shouldn't have happened while we were still there.

There are a ton of things that led to the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. There is plenty of blame to go around, but overall the buck should have stopped with Brandon.
