>>Sparq must be doing well according to latest Iomega Lawsuit

The latest Iomega lawsuit indicates the company may have given false info about Jazz 2 to counter sales growth of Syquest's sparq product. I guess cost conscious consumers are looking at Sparq as a very attractive alternative to the Jazz. I guess that's why Syquest is putting more eggs into Sparq.<<

That's a good one. Investors suing a company for announcing an earlier release date in order to stave off competition. Microsoft has been doing that for years.

And of course, they have no way of proving the allegation anyway. Besides, I thought Jaz2 was supposed to compete with Quest, not SparQ.

Speaking of Quest, shouldn't SyQuest investors sue because Quest has not been shipped yet, despite the company's announcements that it would be in stores by the end of '97? And since SyQuest is now saying that they will only ramp up Quest production if OEMs demand it, isn't that worse than what Iomega did with Jaz2?

My answer is that of course SyQuest should not be sued. The fact is that this is a very fast-changing market, and one cannot assume that Iomega or SyQuest management knew they wouldn't meet their original shipping dates when they announced them.

But if you believe Iomega deserves to be sued for this, it is inconsistent to believe SyQuest shouldn't be.
