HAVE PATENT, WILL SUE MICROSOFT businessweek.com

This one is a riot. Enough to get even me to feel sympathy for the ruthless rogues of Redmond. Patent is on "preemptive multitasking". Sheesh, the prior art on that must only go back to what, 1958? Earlier? CTSS?

Microsoft says that it is studying Reiffin's claim. However, since the disputed code is in wide use, why was just Microsoft targeted? Quips Reiffin: ''As Willie Sutton said, you go where the money is.''

Well, then again, it couldn't happen to a nicer company. Despite the antitrust problems, I hear they still got plenty of lawyers to go after little guys, so a little guy might as well strike first.

Cheers, Dan.
