Israel Thinks It's Strong, but Has Never Been So Dependent on the U.S.
Three times since October 7, the United States has sent major forces to the Middle East to help Israel against Iran and its proxies – on top of massive military aid. It's a paradox of relations: Under Netanyahu, the stronger Israel feels, the more it's reliant on America

A central tenet of Israel's national security has always been that it would never ask any country, not even a strategic ally like the United States, to assist in its defense. The Americans deployed Patriot anti-aircraft and anti-missile batteries in Israel in 1991 when Iraq launched Scud missiles during the first Gulf War. But that was the exception – until the current war in Gaza.
