We will see what happens in retirement.

I am looking seriously into retiring in Southern Italy in order to be able to keep travelling into my 70s at least in the EU. Travel health care insurance after 70 is crazy expensive, $1000 for 30 days away. If I am a Italian permanent resident, they honor the Italian health coverage anywhere in Europe. Italy also offer a low 7 percent tax rate for 10 years if you retire in a small town in southern Italy.

I have heard of companies finally starting to offer more affordable travel insurance for those over 70 in which case I will rethink retiring overseas. Still some many countries and regions I have not visited.

I might be blocked from trading my current accounts if I retire overseas. I get to keep the retirement accounts, but I only get to dispose of assets not trade them I believe. I also have to dispose of the non-registered accounts. I am still working out some logistics.

I am finding the planning for retirement is almost a full time job and quite time consuming, especially if I retire overseas. I don't have a traditional pension so it all dividend and stocks. Luckily I have been a combination of good and lucky over the years.

I hope at least be able to trade index funds or futures even internationally. I have been practicing some day trading for just after the first hour trading in the morning.

You have to keep the mind sharp in retirement. : )

Was the adjustment to not having to be anywhere at a specific time hard to adjust to? As someone who works in tech I am used to stress filled, go go days. Though even I have to admit I am slowing down from enjoying the challenge and all the high energy in my 60s now.

I was talking to someone who retired a few years ago and he said he had a friend that did not plan for retirement and that the only structure in his life was garbage day when he had take out the bins. I definitely don't want to be that guy. : (
