I think that the whole drop in oil price thing has been vastly overblown. The oil companies have not been cutting back on exploration activities just because of the recent drop, and for the most part they have been openly confirming this in press releases, interviews, etc.

Today's reaction probably reflects a belief that oil prices will firm due to a throttling back by the Saudis.
