Jim, Thanks. Yes the funds that Arakis gives to the NIF Military Junta buys weapons for the NIF Soldiers/Mujahadeen/"Holy Warriors" (What an oxymoron!). However note that the article cited various sources for weaponry. Note that the Red Chinese quit selling weapons to the fascists in the Sudan about a year ago, since the NIF wanted to buy more weapons on "credit". Omar Bashir went to Peking in late 1996 but Peking said "no." Iraq and Libya are the "suppliers of choice" now. Yes Arakis' position post-war is open to question, as is possibly their partner Petronas, who is also complicit in hiding weaponry in oilfield equipment shipments into the Sudan.... But remember the Arakis CEO Khan is considered an "Islamist" by the SPLA Leadership.... Understand too that in the off season that literally thousands of Africans men and women volunteered to fight for the SPLA. The number of volunteers overwhelmed the SPLA's ability to train them. But that period is now past. On the other hand the Congressional Study released last week let the "cat out of the bag" that the NIF Government has chemical weapons production capability. I can confirm their use against SPLA troops and African civilans (unarmed women and children) in the vicinity of Yei last summer. If you are American or European, then you should be particularly concerned- the NIF will not hesitate to use these chemical weapons against civilian populations in the US and Europe, just as they trained the bombers of the World Trade Center in New York- Why do you think the US slapped a total economic embargo on this military junta? And there's even more- the story goes deeper and uglier than this- I just can't print it here right now. If the Canadian Goverment or Arakis Management can turn a "blind eye" to all of this bloodletting just to make some money- well then, sow the seed and reap the whirlwind..... Don't bet too much money on this company. Look instead to a company like British Petroleum which incorporates human rights into its corporate charter....or to the oilfield service stocks as they are heavily oversold........
