Thinking about old albums
or
Shuffling used to mean something different

I remember playing albums on stereos with record players at parties, it was a job that someone had to do.
You would go through a stack of albums and play a song from her and a song from there.
I wasn't very good at it, usually too drunk or high or both, it was also tough to do.
You had to drop the needle right down perfectly then slowly turn the volume up.
It was always nice when someone was fussy about their records, they would be the only one playing them.
That was at the beginning of the night, no one actually lasted through the party unless they were a fanatic.

Needles made some amazing noises depending on the level of intoxication and lack of coordination.
Many an album became unplayable unless you rested a dime or two on the end of the stylus.
Of course that did not work at parties and by the end of any party night it was just play another album,
Shuffling through someone's record pile late at night and finding an ELP album always made me feel like...
