| | | Onslaught. I was having trouble with that word because the only activity I was aware of big enough to pass for an onslaught was the Russian attack on Ukraine. You'd have to be Russian, steeped in the glory of Greater Russia, to see things otherwise, which produced cognitive dissonance for me being an American steeped in the Enlightenment. But I recognize what you're talking about now.
I was not referring to other USA onslaughts such as Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Serbia.
I think that the US has largely internalized the lesson of Afghanistan and aggressive nation building to aggressively advance Western Democracy. While instincts linger, I put that phase in the rear-view mirror.
As for Russia, I think it could grow into being European if it chose to, grow meaning mature, not expand. |
